# Keeping diagrams true

> How polled resources become shapes and strata, and what happens to the parts you drew yourself.

Once a scope has been polled, Continuum can put the results on a canvas.

## Shapes

Resources become shapes, grouped by the boundaries that exist in the source:
accounts, regions, virtual networks, resource groups. Icons resolve to the
right vendor marks automatically.

## Strata

Each resource's detail becomes a stratum on its shape: configuration,
identifiers, relationships. The stratum stays true without anyone maintaining
it.

## What happens to your own work

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Continuum-managed components are owned by Continuum and are rewritten on
> refresh. Shapes you drew yourself are yours and are not touched. Keep
> commentary and hand-drawn context on the Notes layer or in your own tabs, and
> it will survive every refresh.

## Binding one shape

You do not have to generate a whole diagram. A single shape on a hand-drawn
diagram can be bound to one live AWS resource, so only that shape's detail
comes from the source.
